I went to harbor freight yesterday to purchase a porta power set and at the check out I was asked if I had a coupon. I told the cashier that I didn't and he asked me offered to make me "deal." He asked me to purchase an extended protection plan, and in exchange he would give me 20% off using a coupon he pulled out from under the register. I declined, stating that the discount wouldn't be enough to cover the cost of the warranty and that I likely wouldn't be needing the warranty. The cashier became agitated and started trying to remove the discount (he had already scanned the coupon.) I asked him why if he could offer me the discount why he couldn't just leave it on there. He replied that " if you're not going to purchase the protection plan then I'm not giving you the discount." I've literally felt less pressured to purchase something by used car salesman. Ironically, a few hours later a friend of mine texted me that he had been at Johnstown harbor freight and gotten into the very same argument with an employee (not knowing of my problem earlier in the evening. )My friend became frustrated enough that he left the merchandise on the counter and didn't purchase it. Harbor freight, please get your employees under control. If you are paying them a commission on these scam warranties, stop.
Extremely rude employees. I was unaware that they closed at 7 on Wednesday and at 10 till 7 I was made aware of this by an employee who then followed me around while I was trying to decide what to get (I wasn't browsing either I had a cart full of items) but it made me.extremely uncomfortable and very unwelcome. Returning everything and won't return there.
I do like coming here for some of the products but truthfully a lot of the merchandise is very cheap in quality. I have had excellent service from most of the employees which is a plus.
Pricing is great but also poor quality employees are disrespectful. Do not call because they are rude and will say they carry it. The goofy 80s throwback manager never speaks up and when directly spoken to seems the position is honorary.
